About the Artist Sarah McCord

Sarah McCord is a working Artist based in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

I'M Sarah MCCOrd!

I am a self-taught  oil painter based in Albuquerque, New Mexico . I infuse my paintings with metaphysical symbolism, my  subjects hallowed by a faintly glowing aura or encompassed by golden rings.

A true child of the southwest, I have an affinity for indigenous art and traditions as well as an affectionate familiarity with Chicano art forms both traditional and contemporary. True to the influences of a complex and multifaceted historic-religious region, dotted with unique artist colonies and movements of its own, I find inspiration through a variety of spiritual traditions, and cultural reference points and as well as the firm belief of the value of all people.

You can learn more about me and see more of my work at my website or on Instagram  @sarahemccordart

or find me on Facebook at Sarah McCord

My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.

I was born in Albuquerque and consider myself a "New Mexico grown artist".  I have always experienced a sense of peace and deep connectedness in the presence of nature, particularly, with what my grandmother called  the  “whispering” ponderosa pines and the generous, cascading applause of yellowing aspen of Flagstaff, Arizona  where I spent some of my childhood.

I love traveling throughout the southwest and and have come to rely on the clarifying effects of the open skyline,  to trust the ombre desert stone formations for their grounding abelites, and  look to  the alien, diverse, survivalist desert vegetation which make up the various desert regions of New Mexico and Arizona to inspire the imagination.

ARts Practice

Since childhood I  have always created objects of gift giving since childhood  as well as  relying on artmaking as a mode of self-exploration, self-expression, performance, and communication.

I continue to use the principles of “gifting” art to others through my workshops, social justice activism and involvement in both my local and international arts community.

A participant in the Prison Creative Arts Program and Creative Catalyst, I increasingly rely on art making, collaboration and critique as a means of forming connection, community, growth and healing.

career highlights

Works shown in galleries such as Tortuga Gallery, Mothership Alumni, OFF Center, OT Circus, and the Albuquerque Center for Peace and Justice.

Always an intuitive in my path to artistic growth and creative development, I have self-selected the teachers and influences she feels most relevant to my developing artistic practice including Kerry Dunn, Rachel Powpowcer, Dorielle Caimi, Shawna Levenson and the mentorship of Sean Wells as well as committed involvement with my local arts community including alliances formed through local arts group Coffee and Creatives.
